Purpose of the assessment (with ULO Mapping) | This assignment is designed to assess students’ knowledge and skills related to the following learning outcomes:
|
Weight | 20 % Assignment 3 |
Total Marks | 60 |
Word limit | Approximately 600 – 1000 words |
Due Date | Assignment 3 (Week 11, 1/10/2023) 11:59 PM – submit a report on Moodle |
Submission Guidelines | All work must be submitted on Moodle by the due date, along with a Title Page. The assignment must be in MS Word format, 1.5 spacing, 11-pt Calibri (Body) font and 2.54 cm margins on all four sides of your page with appropriate section headings. Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using the IEEE referencing style. |
Extension | • If an extension of time to submit work is required, a Special Consideration Application must be submitted directly on AMS. You must submit this application three working days before the due date of the assignment. |
Academic Misconduct | • Academic Misconduct is a serious offence. Depending on the seriousness of the case, penalties can vary from a written warning or zero marks to exclusion from the course or rescinding the degree. |
Assignment 3 Overview of Internetworking MN503
A case study entitled “MANDARIN ORIENTAL” is uploaded with the assignment folder, and the link for the case study is provided as an appendix.
Based on your understanding of the case study, you have already addressed some components, such as project scope and challenges, in Formative assignment 1.
In this assignment 3, you are required to analyse the case study further and design a wired and wireless network. Please consider MANDARIN ORIENTAL includes a big outdoor pool, hotel with multiple stories and rooms (assume at least 10 floors and 30 rooms in each floor).
This is a group assignment and should be submitted in a group of 4 students at the maximum.
This assignment consists of two sections—section 1 – Report preparation and Section 2 – Video demonstration.
Section 1: In this section, you are required to design the wired and wireless networks suitable for the case study requirement. You are required to have the following contents.
- IP addresses table (suitable for the design)
- Network topology design in an appropriate simulation software
- Design configuration, including
- Switch configuration,
- Router configuration,
- DHCP configuration,
- Access Point (APs) configuration
- Server configuration guidelines
- Security Configuration
- Snapshots of ping connectivity (desirable)
- Outcomes
- Limitations and future growth
- Conclusion
- IEEE referencing style
Section 2: This is a video demonstration section where you will prepare a short 7–10-minute video on your design configuration on simulation software. You may describe the IP addresses design, network topology and design configuration (with switch, router, DHCP. APs etc., configurations). Having your avatar on the screen while describing your design is mandatory. You may upload the video on Moodle Shell or may have the link for the video.
The section needs to be included in the report | Description of the section Assignment 3 | Marks |
---|---|---|
Section 1 | Report Preparation | |
IP addresses table (Suitable for the design) | Write the IP address table, the Netmask table, and the class used. | 10 |
Network Topology Diagram | Switch configuration,
Router configuration, DHCP configuration, Access Points (APs), Server configuration guidelines, Security Configuration |
6×2=12 |
Outcomes | Identify at least four outcomes of the network | 4 |
Limitations and further growth | Identify two limitations of the project and your suggestion/s for future | 4 |
Conclusions | Write a clear conclusion of the case study | 5 |
Section 2 | Video demonstration of Simulation software | |
Demonstration | Video demonstration of your network design for 7 – 10 minutes covering the followings: IP addresses the design, network topology design configuration (with switch, router, DHCP. APs etc., configurations). | 20 |
Reference style | Follow IEEE style referencing (at least five credible references, books, journals etc.) | 5 |
Total | 60 |
